不思議な相談？というかご質問を
キャリア相談でいただきました。
こんな内容です。
今日お話ししていて思ったんですが、
私、「君にも才能はある！」と言われるのがすごい嫌いだったんです。
そんなふわっとしたもので仕事はできないし、
どうせ自分よりもできるひとはすぐに見つかっちゃうし。という具合に嫉妬深いんですが、
嫉妬深い状態のときこそやる気が出るんですよ。
「今に見てろ」と思うというか。それで変な質問かもなのですが、
そんな私にぴったりの本とかないですか？
現実的というか、漫画でもなんでもいいです。
思い当たる本や漫画、言葉をご存知の方がいれば

相談者さんと同じく、私も嫉妬深い性格です。
さらには、ひとと比べてよく凹みます。
よせばいいとはわかってるんですけどね、
なぜか「あのひとはここがすごくて、自分はここがだめ」と考えるとき、
ものすごく頭が良く回ります。
ネガティブとクリエイティブの相性良すぎ問題です・・・
なんていう私はこんな言葉に救われています。
CBとはサッカーの神様に愛されなかった凡人が持てる「すべて」で才能を握りつぶす場所を言う
この言葉は『カテナチオ』というサッカー漫画の一巻のP60に出てきます。
CBはサッカーのポジションである「センターバック」の略称です。

すごい言葉じゃないでしょうか？
特に「サッカーの神様に愛されなかった凡人」で
「お前のことだよ」と名指しされたような気分です。
相談者さまともここで大盛り上がりでした。
その方もサッカーが好きという偶然も手伝って。
ゴールキーパーの前で、足だけでなく頭も手も（？）もときには使って
ゴールを死守する泥臭いポジションです。
私は小学校から高校まで12年間、センターバックでした。
私もシュートやドリブルに憧れて練習したんですが、
監督やコーチに「お前はボールを3秒以上持つな」と言われる始末です。
「才能ないんだなぁ」と小学校の最初の方で理解しました。
だからこそ「サッカーの神様に愛されなかった凡人」は
まさに私のことです。
だからといって、自分に役割がないわけでも価値がないわけでもない。
凡人の私でも”持てる「すべて」で才能を握りつぶす”ことができる、
つまり相手の良さを帳消しにしてチームを勝利に導けるわけです。
（表現は強いですが）
自分は何者かがわかると、やることがはっきりする
センターバックの話をずっとしてしまいそうなので切り上げまして・・・
この言葉から学べることは
「自分が何者かがわかると、やることがはっきりする」という点です。
先程の言葉を見て「私のことだ」と思ったひともいれば、
「ちょっと暗いな！」と思ったひともいるはずです。
どちらも正解です。
前者の方、つまり「自分が何者かを言い当てられたひと」は
ここからが分かれ道です。
「そうだ、私のことだ」と認める道と、
「何を失礼なことを」と否定する道。
私は前者をおすすめします。
自分が何者かがわかると、役割も強みも、それこそ才能もはっきりするからです。
私が小学生の頃、「お前はボールを3秒以上持つな」と言われながらも
シュートやドリブルを究めようとしたら
きっと先輩たちの試合に出ることはなかったでしょう。
その代わり、「相手の良いところを先に潰す力」には長けていました。
なんともまぁ、性格が悪い強みですが
狡猾さという言葉にしておいてください。
キャリアでも近しいことが言えるはずです。
私は今でも音楽とデザインに憧れがあります。
でも私が学び始めたら・・・いつまで経っても平均を上回れないでしょう。
その代わりに文字を書く強みは、平均を上回れそうです。
ここを伸ばしていこうと決めています。
だから、相談者さまと一緒に問うてみました。
私は、何の神様には愛されなかっただろうか？
代わりに、何の神様に愛されているんだろうか？
この問いで自分が何者かはっきりすると、
何をすべきかも見えてくるはずです。
もしかしたら、あなたは魚なのに泳ごうとせずに飛ぼうとしているかもしれません。
サッカー選手なのに素振りをしているかもしれません。
そんな「才能はずれ」を回避するためにも
自分は何者なのかを問う時間をとってみてくださいませ。
メッセージ
キャリア相談の内容が変わってきました。
「いかに転職するか」から「これからどう働いていくか」のように、
時間軸が伸びている印象です。
転職活動の時期がいったん落ち着きますしね。

Like the consultant, I too am a jealous person and often get depressed comparing myself to others. Even though I know better, my brain works incredibly well when I’m thinking, “That person is amazing at this, and I’m terrible at that.”
It’s the too-good compatibility between negativity and creativity…
For someone like me, this phrase has been a lifesaver:
“CB is where the ordinary, not favored by the soccer gods, crush talent with everything they’ve got.”
This quote is from the manga “Catena” on page 60 of the first volume. CB refers to the soccer position “Center Back”.

Isn’t that a powerful statement? Especially the part about being “ordinary, not favored by the soccer gods,” it feels like it’s speaking directly to me.
The consultant and I got really excited about this. Coincidentally, they also love soccer.
The Center Back position is all about using not just your feet but also your head and even your hands (?) if necessary to defend the goal.
I played as a Center Back for 12 years, from elementary through high school. Despite practicing shots and dribbling, I was always told, “Don’t hold onto the ball for more than three seconds.”
I realized “I’m not talented” pretty early on in elementary school.
But that doesn’t mean I didn’t have a role or value. Even as an ordinary person, I could “crush talent with everything I’ve got,” meaning I could neutralize the opponent’s strengths and lead the team to victory. (This expression might be a bit strong.)
Knowing Who You Are Makes What You Need to Do Clear
Let’s not linger on the Center Back topic…
The lesson from this phrase is, “Knowing who you are makes what you need to do clear.”
Some people might find the phrase fitting, while others might think it’s a bit dark. Both are correct.
For those who felt it hit the mark, “Yes, that’s me,” you’re at a crossroads.
You can either accept “That’s me” or reject it thinking “How rude!”
I recommend the former. Knowing who you are clarifies your role, strengths, and yes, even your talents.
Had I continued trying to perfect shots and dribbling, thinking “I’ll be a forward or midfielder,” I likely would never have played in senior games.
Instead, I excelled in “negating the opponent’s strengths.” Admittedly, this highlights a somewhat malevolent strength, but let’s just call it cunning.
This can also apply to careers. I still admire music and design, but if I started learning now… I’d probably never surpass the average.
Instead, I focus on strengthening my ability to write, where I believe I can exceed the average.
So, we pondered together with the consultant:
Which gods didn’t favor me?
Instead, which gods have favored me?
When you clear up who you are, what you need to do becomes apparent too.
Perhaps, you’re a fish trying to fly instead of swimming.
A soccer player practicing swings.
To avoid such “talent mismatches”,
take some time to question who you really are.
Message
The nature of career consultations is shifting.
From “how to change jobs” to “how to work moving forward,” it feels like we’re extending the time horizon.
As the job change season settles down, the types of concerns and consultations we receive change with the seasons.
A single phrase from a book or manga can often provide a breakthrough. Let go of the notion of “solving it all on your own” and clear your mind.
