転職エージェントの内情にお詳しい佐野さんにお聞きしたい事がありメッセージしました。

①転職エージェントと相談しながら今後の業界や職種を決めてもいいのか？
（ゼロストレス転職では、あらかじめ軸をしっかりと決めてエージェントに伝えると良いとのことでしたが、特にやりたいこともない場合は、エージェント目線で、私の経歴などから客観的に見てもらってもいいものでしょうか…）

②大手の転職エージェントに登録を断られてしまった場合の戦い方を教えてほしいです。

「第1章：転職の軸になる「強み」の見つけ方」も
おそらくご覧になった上でも
「特にやりたいこともない」という理解で進めますね。
（著者として力不足です・・・！）

「考えたけどやりたいことはないから、
客観的にプロからアドバイスしてもらいたい」は、
選択肢としてありです。

とはいえ、私のようにキャリア相談をしている者がそう言っても、
ただのポジショントーク、セールストークになってしまいます。

そのため、「どんなスタンスであれば転職エージェントに相談しながら決めて良いか」を
お伝えさせていただきます。

”キャリアアドバイス”ができるひとは、ほんの一握りしかいない

まず、「経歴を見てもらった上で、
今後の業界や職種を聞くのはありか」ですが、
”条件付き”です。

そう、”条件付き”なんです。

なぜならキャリアアドバイスは
かなり高度な技術が求められるからです。

どれくらい高度かというと・・・
イメージですが、弁護士試験や医師試験に合格する能力くらいでしょうか。

「あなたはこれまでこういう経歴なので、
これからはこういう仕事や業界がいいんじゃないですか？」というアドバイスが
精度高くできること。至難の業です。

初対面のひとの経歴を見て、強みを抽出して、
その強みが仕事になる職種や業界を提案する。

佐野もキャリア相談でしているつもりですし、
私なりに「未来に適当に一点打ってから始めると良い」など仮説はあります。
その仮説をもとに転職して幸せに働き続けている方もいらっしゃいます。

でも、「本当にできているのか」と自分に厳しく問うてみれば、
謙虚にならざるを得ません。
相談者さまの力による部分が大きいというのが、本音のところです。

”キャリアアドバイス”ができるひとは、ほんの一握りなんです。

転職エージェントには「使いどころ」がある

さらには、転職エージェントは何のプロかを考えると
「転職する確率を上げるプロ」です。
もっといえば、
（１）求人企業がほしい人物像を熟知していて、
（２）職務経歴書や面接でその人物像に合致していると証明するノウハウを
（３）求職者に伝授することに長けている
この3つの条件を兼ね備えているプロです。
（転職エージェントでも個人差はあります）

「大手の転職エージェントに登録を断られた場合」を想定しているということは、
断られる可能性があるか、すでに断られたということでしょうか？

そうであれば、相談者さまは私と同じように”ワケあり人材”か
自分の属性と転職エージェントの得意領域がずれている可能性があります。

後者の場合は話はシンプルなのですが、
前者ですと「自分で転職の方向性をある程度決めてから、
転職エージェントを使う」という順番になります。

Is it okay to decide on my future industry and job type in consultation with a career change agent? (I read in ‘Zero Stress Career Change’ that it’s best to have a clear focus before approaching an agent, but what if I don’t particularly have anything I want to do? Is it acceptable to get an objective perspective based on my background from the agent’s point of view?)

I would appreciate advice on how to proceed if a major career change agency rejects my registration.”

You probably have read “Chapter 1: How to Find Your Strengths, the Axis of Career Change” and understand that not having a clear idea of what you want to do is a valid starting point (I must reflect on my limitations as an author!).

It’s perfectly reasonable to say, “I’ve thought about it but don’t have a specific desire, so I’d like to receive objective advice from a professional.” This is a valid option.

However, coming from someone like me, who offers career advice, this might sound like just a position or sales talk.

Therefore, I’ll share my thoughts on “What stance should one take when consulting a career change agent?”

“Only a Handful Can Truly Offer Career Advice”

First, let’s address the question of whether it’s okay to decide on your future industry and job type after having your background reviewed. The answer is “yes,” but it’s “conditional.”

Why conditional? Because providing career advice is a highly advanced skill.

How advanced? Imagine needing the ability to pass a bar or medical exam.

For someone to look at your background for the first time, extract your strengths, and then suggest job types or industries where those strengths can be applied is an extremely challenging task.

I attempt to do this in my career consultations, and there are indeed people who have followed such hypotheses and found happiness in their new jobs.

However, when I critically ask myself if I’m truly achieving this, I must humbly admit that much of it depends on the strengths of the individuals I advise.

Truly capable career advisors are rare (and I am constantly striving to be one).

“There’s a Right Way to Use Career Change Agents”

Furthermore, when considering what career change agents specialize in, they are experts in increasing the likelihood of a successful career change. More specifically, they:

Have a thorough understanding of what employers are looking for,
Possess the know-how to demonstrate in resumes and interviews that a candidate matches this profile, and
Excel in imparting this knowledge to job seekers.
That’s why in ‘Zero Stress Career Change’ (PHP Institute) and in interviews, I emphasize the importance of getting the ‘red book of interviews.’ These skilled agents study the selection processes of companies and can guide you based on past trends and strategies.

Some agents can indeed provide career advice. I know a few who are virtually magicians in this field. But these agents are a rare breed.

What concerns me is that being rejected by a major career change agent might indicate that you, like me, are a “unique talent” or that there’s a mismatch between your profile and the agency’s areas of expertise.
