さて、前置きが長くなりましたが、かくいう私も転職活動中の身で、つい最近企業から内定をいただきました。
現職では十分すぎる年収を提示され働いていましたが、昼夜問わず、土日も休みなく働いていた自分自身がある日ふと悲しくなり、「仕事に支配されたくない」と転職活動を行いました。
内定をいただいた企業から提示された年収は現職よりも低く、賞与が入ってなんとか現職とギリギリ同じくらいのラインです。

「お金目当てで転職しているわけではないのだから、年収が下がっても気にするなよ、自分」
と戒めておりますが、なかなかモヤモヤが消えず、このままでは気持ち良く新しい会社に転職できないとまで考えてしまいます。おそらくですが「年収が下がっても納得して働けるか」という答えが、自分の中で曖昧になっているのだろうと思います。
ただ、内定をいただいた企業はIPO準備中で、自身の経験を活かせる業務と、ゼロから作り上げていく未経験の業務の両方を担える良いチャンスであり、そこに対しての迷いは一切ありません。

とりとめもない長文になってしまいましたが、このような小さなモヤモヤをどのように解消していけばよいか、新しい会社で気持ちよく働くにはどのような気持ちで臨めばよいか、ぜひアドバイスをいただければと思います。

「会社辞めたい」本音は、転職先でスッキリさせられそうでしょうか？

もう既に解消されていそうですが、
次の点は整理しておくことをおすすめします。

それは「会社辞めたい」とまで思った理由が、
転職先でスッキリさせられそうか、です。

相談者さまの場合はこのように整理できます。
●会社辞めたい理由：現職では十分すぎる年収を提示され働いていましたが、昼夜問わず、土日も休みなく働いていた自分自身がある日ふと悲しくなり、「仕事に支配されたくない」と転職活動を行いました。
●転職先の職場：PO準備中で、自身の経験を活かせる業務と、ゼロから作り上げていく未経験の業務の両方を担える良いチャンス

会社辞めたい理由である「仕事に支配されたくない」という思いは、
転職先のIPO準備中の会社で解消されそうでしょうか？

「IPO準備中となれば忙しくなるのでは」とも思います。

既に調査済みかもしれませんが、
「会社辞めたい理由」と「転職する理由」が一致しているかを
今一度点検してみてくださいませ。

相談者さまが内定を勝ち取った企業のように、
魅力的な条件がそろった会社だと
「今の会社を辞めたい理由」を忘れて
「この会社に転職しようかどうしよう」と悩むことがよくあります。

「なんで転職活動したいんだっけ」と整理し、
転職先候補の会社でその思いを解消できそうか、
言葉にしてみることをおすすめします。

現職よりも年収が下がるオファーにモヤる真因とは何か？

それでは本題です。
相談者さまは『「年収が下がっても納得して働けるか」という答えが、
自分の中で曖昧になっている」』とお悩みです。

そう、これはかなり悩むのではと推察しています。

なぜなら、私たちはビジネスパーソンである以上、
自分の仕事の成果は当然「お給料」に反映されることを願います。

これはまったく「お金にがめつい」とか、
そういう話にはなりません。

相談者さまも以下のように
書いてくださっています。
＞昼夜問わず、土日も休みなく働いていた自分自身がある日ふと悲しくなり、「仕事に支配されたくない」と転職活動を行いました

仕事をするということは、自分の時間を差し出すことになります。
時間とは何かというと、命です。

大袈裟に聞こえますが、実際にそうです。
なぜなら、私たちは仕事以外にも大切なものがある中で
「それでもあえて」仕事をしています。
ひとによっては子育てかもしれないです。
介護だってあります。
大切な趣味だってあるんです。

「それでもあえて」仕事を優先するということは、
「命を使って仕事をしている」としても過言ではありません。

なので、現職より給料が下がるオファーはモヤりますし、
モヤることに何の問題もありません。

相談者さまは「小さなモヤモヤ」と書かれていますが、
とても大切なことに悩んでいると捉えていただくことをおすすめします。

「お金に執着している自分はだめだ」とか
「お金よりもっと大切なことがあるだろう」のように
自分を戒めたりしようとしなくてOKです。

まずは、「お金について気にするのは当然だ。
私の命でもある時間を使っているんだから」と
ちょっと強気になるくらいでもOKです。

年収交渉はできるのか？

ここまで思考について僭越ながらおすすめを申し上げてきたので。
最後に行動についてお伝えします。

的は「なぜ現職より下がるのか（相談者さまがモヤる金額にまで）」に絞ります。

考えられる理由は2つです。
一つ目は相談者さまは「昼夜問わず、土日も休みなく働いていた」と
書いてらっしゃるので
残業代がかさんでいる可能性が考えられます。
こちらを交渉材料にすることは難しいです。

二つ目の理由が転職した場合には
「ゼロから作り上げていく未経験の業務」があることです。

未経験の業務が転職想定先の企業が仮に「5つある」と考えていて、
相談者さまは「2つある」と考えているとします。

この「3つ」のずれが、
相談者さまの「モヤるほどの給料が下がる理由」である可能性があります。

そのためできることは二つあります。
未経験の業務をヒアリングして棚卸して
●未経験の仕事のずれを減らすこと（本当は未経験業務は1つかもしれない）
●これから発生するであろう業務を特定して、
相談者さまの経験でカバーできることを伝える

この二つです。

どちらも内定提示段階だからこそ、
ヒアリングをして提案できるものです。

いただいたご相談の文章からは、
相談者さまのあたたかいお人柄と
鋭い分析力が伺えます。
現職がありながら内定をとっていらっしゃるので、
行動力もあります。

そんな相談者さんであれば年収交渉をしても
内定先と関係が悪くなることもなく、
むしろ「ビジネスの交渉ができるひとだ」と
さらに評価を高める可能性すらあると考えております。

年収交渉は、私はほとんどの場合はおすすめしません。
「もっとほしいから」という感情的な理由が多いため、
交渉材料が見つからないからです。

でも、相談者さまは交渉材料を持っているのではと思います。

「そんな考えもあるのか」と思っていただければ幸いです。

Job Change Consultation: I’ve received an offer, but the salary is lower. What should I do?

Here’s the concern I’ve received.

Hello. I always look forward to reading your newsletter.
Every time I read it, I gain new insights, and as I delve into the content shared by others,
I think, “Ah, there are people out there who share my concerns. I’m not alone.”
It makes me happy to realize that a kind of modest, one-way community has been built around these shared concerns.
Job hunting can be a lonely endeavor, but thanks to Mr. Sano’s words, which offer empathy and gentle nudges of realization, I feel “I’m not alone.”
Now, to get to the point, I too am currently job hunting and recently received a job offer from a company.
In my current job, I was offered more than enough salary, but working day and night, including weekends, made me suddenly feel sad one day, and I didn’t want to be dominated by work anymore, so I started job hunting.
The salary offered by the company I got the offer from is lower than my current job, and only barely reaches the same level as my current job when including bonuses.

“I’m not job hunting for the money, so I shouldn’t mind the lower salary,” I tell myself, but I can’t shake off this feeling of unease, to the point where I worry I won’t be able to transition to the new company comfortably. Perhaps the answer to “Can I work there, satisfied with a lower salary?” remains unclear in my mind.
However, the company preparing for an IPO presents a good opportunity to utilize my experience in both familiar tasks and new challenges from scratch, and I have no doubts about this opportunity.

I apologize for the lengthy and somewhat disorganized message, but I would appreciate any advice on how to clear up these minor concerns and how to approach my new job with a positive mindset.

First, I would like to say one thing.

Congratulations on your job offer!

Despite your worries about whether to switch jobs,
continuing your current job while job hunting and securing an offer
is no small feat.
Please feel confident in yourself for achieving this.

“Want to quit my job” – Can the new job clear these feelings?

You might have already considered this, but I recommend organizing the following point:
That is, whether the reason you felt “I want to quit my job” can be resolved at the new job.

In your case, this can be organized as follows:
●Reason for wanting to quit: Despite being offered a more than sufficient salary at your current job, you worked day and night, including weekends, which made you feel sad one day and led you to not want to be dominated by work anymore, prompting your job search.
●The new workplace: Preparing for an IPO, offering a great opportunity to utilize your experience in both familiar tasks and new challenges from scratch

Can the reason you wanted to quit, “not wanting to be dominated by work,” be resolved at the company preparing for an IPO?

Based on the information from Marshmallow, it’s possible to think, “Wouldn’t it get busier with the IPO preparations?”

You might have already looked into this, but please double-check if “the reason for quitting” aligns with “the reason for changing jobs” once more.

It’s common to forget “the reason for wanting to leave the current job” when faced with a company offering attractive conditions like the one you’ve received an offer from, wondering, “Should I switch to this company?”

Organizing your thoughts on “Why did I want to change jobs?” and whether the new company can address those reasons is something I recommend.

What is the real cause of frustration over an offer with lower salary?

Now, to the main issue.
You are troubled because “the answer to whether I can work there, satisfied with a lower salary, remains unclear” in your mind.
Indeed, this is a considerable concern.

Because, as business professionals, we naturally hope our work’s outcome is reflected in our “salary.”

This doesn’t at all imply being “greedy for money.”

As you’ve mentioned:

Working day and night, including weekends, made me feel sad one day, and I didn’t want to be dominated by work anymore, prompting me to start job hunting.

Working means dedicating your time. And what is time? It’s life.

It might sound exaggerated, but it’s true. Because, aside from work, we have other important things in our lives,
yet we “still choose” to work. It could be raising children, caregiving, or even a precious hobby.

Choosing to prioritize work means, in a way, “using our lives for work,” and it’s not an overstatement.

Therefore, receiving an offer with a lower salary is frustrating, and it’s perfectly normal to feel this way.

You’ve referred to your concerns as “minor,” but I recommend considering them as significant worries.

It’s okay not to scold yourself thinking, “It’s wrong to be fixated on money” or “There must be something more important than money.”

First, it’s natural to care about money because it represents the time, which is also your life, you’re investing in your work.
It’s okay to be a bit bold about this.

Is salary negotiation possible?

I’ve offered some thoughts thus far, so let me now share some action you might consider.
Focus on “Why is the offer lower than my current job (to the point of causing concern)?”

There could be two reasons.
The first is as you’ve written, “working day and night, including weekends,” which suggests overtime pay might have been a significant part.
This would be difficult to use as a bargaining chip.

The second reason is the new job involves “starting from scratch in an unfamiliar area.”

If the prospective company considers there are “five unfamiliar tasks,” and you think there are “two,” this discrepancy might be why the salary offer is lower than expected.

Thus, there are two things you can do:

Clarify the unfamiliar tasks by discussing them, possibly reducing the discrepancy (perhaps there’s actually only one unfamiliar task).
Identify upcoming tasks and communicate how your experience can cover them.
Both are possible because you’re at the stage of receiving an offer.

From your consultation, I can sense your warm personality and sharp analytical skills. Securing an offer while still employed shows your initiative.

With your qualities, negotiating your salary might not harm your relationship with the prospective employer but could even enhance their view of you as someone capable of business negotiations.

I usually don’t recommend salary negotiations because they often stem from emotional reasons, like “I want more,” without substantial grounds.

However, you seem to have negotiation materials.

I hope this gives you a new perspective to consider. I’m rooting for you.

It’s common to belittle our worries, thinking they’re “too trivial to be concerned about” or “I shouldn’t be troubled by such things.”
It’s as if we’re driven by self-criticism and admonition. (I’m guilty of this too…)

But concerns are like the voice of our true feelings—a kind of owl (?) that teaches us very important things.
I hope you can view your concerns as voices revealing your true feelings.

Writing them down is also crucial. By writing, you momentarily separate yourself from your worries, allowing you to objectively observe, “So, these are the concerns I have.”
