本日のテーマは「みくびられない仕事研究」です。
キャリア相談で相談者さまからいただいた転職相談です。

転職活動の面接やエージェント面談で
「仕事のいいとこしか見てないな」と
甘く見られない方法はあるのでしょうか？

ポイントは二つです。
「一部と全体」、「結果と過程」です。

採用やマーケティング、事業開発などの人気職種に興味がある
求人票を見ても仕事のイメージが湧かない
自分の仕事を面接でうまく伝えられない

そんなひとに受け取っていただければ幸いです。

転職相談：「キラキラしたとこしか見てないでしょ？」にはなんと反論したらいいですか？

いただいた転職相談はこちらです。

転職エージェントに「採用担当に興味あります」と言ったら
”そんなキラキラしてないよ”と止められました。
キラキラしたいわけでもないし、
そもそもどんな仕事も泥臭さはあると思っているのですが、
うまく説明できませんでした。

どうしたら良かったのでしょうか？

転職エージェントの諭し方を問題にしたいですが
いったん横に置いておきます。

採用担当やマーケティング、事業開発のような
いわゆる”人気職種”ほど「キラキラしてないよ」と
言われることが多いのではないでしょうか？

でも、この「キラキラしていない」、ないしは
「泥臭い」とはどういった意味なのでしょうか？

ここを具体的にすれば、人気職種への転職であっても
「このひとは本気だ」「よく調べている」と熱意が伝わるはずです。

「その仕事、キラキラしてないよ」の真意とは？

既に相談者さまは「どんな仕事も泥臭さはあると思っている」と聞かせてくださっています。

”キラキラしている部分だけを見て、その仕事をしたいと考える”は
たくさんの言い換えがあります。

例えば・・・

・「映画の予告編だけを見て、映画監督を目指す」
・「コース料理のメインディッシュを見て、料理人の道を志す」
・「大谷翔平選手のホームランを見て、プロ野球選手を目標にする」

転職活動でいうと・・・

・「採用説明会でプレゼンしている社員を見て、採用担当になりたくなった」
・「CMで感動した商品を見て、商品企画をしたくなった」
・「SNSでバズったコンテンツを見て、マーケティングを仕事にしたいと思った」

もちろん、その道を歩み始めるきっかけは
こういった「最高のシーンを見て」がほとんどです。

でもこれが転職活動という仕事の場になると、
上記のような話をされると
「その仕事、キラキラしてないよ」と諭されてしまいます。

まとめますね。

「キラキラしてないよ」と指摘される原因は2つです。

「ある仕事の一番いいところである一部を見て、全体を分かった気になっている」と
「ある仕事の結果だけを見て、そこにいたった過程を見ていない」です。

「このひとなら任せられそうだ」と言われるひとの「仕事研究」の特徴とは

もう答えは出ましたね。
「キラキラしてないよ」と言われない、
つまり「泥臭さをわかっていて任せられそう」と思われるひとは
「仕事研究」で2つのことを明らかにしています。

仕事の全体像と、結果をつくるための過程です。

相談者さまでいえば
採用担当の仕事の全体像と、
採用人数を目標通り達成するために積み重ねている過程を調べて、
「だからこそやりたいんです」と伝えること。

こうすると「キラキラした部分しか見てないな」や
「泥臭い作業から逃げそうだな」と思われなくなります。

ネットや本で調べたり、ひとに聞くときは
「仕事の全体像」と「結果を出すための過程」に絞ると
その仕事の実情がわかります。

さらには入社後のミスマッチもなくせます。
「この仕事、本当にやりたいか」もわかります。

「仕事研究」とは、「仕事の全体像」と「結果を出すための過程」を知ること。

そう覚えておいていただければと思います。

Job Change Consultation: How should I respond to “You’re only looking at the glamorous aspects of the job”?

Here is the job change consultation I received.

When I told a job agent I was interested in becoming a recruitment officer,
they stopped me saying, “It’s not as glamorous as you think.”
I don’t necessarily want glamour, and
I believe every job has its gritty aspects, but
I couldn’t explain it well.
What should I have done?

While I want to question the agent’s method of persuasion,
let’s set that aside for now.

For so-called “popular job categories” like recruitment, marketing, or business development,
isn’t it common to be told, “It’s not as glamorous as you think”?

But, what does “not glamorous” or “gritty” really mean?

If you can specify this, even for a popular job switch,
it should convey your earnestness and thorough research.

What Does “That Job Isn’t Glamorous” Truly Mean?

The consultant has already shared the belief that “every job has its gritty aspects.”
“Looking only at the glamorous parts of a job” has many paraphrases.

For example…

・”Deciding to become a film director after only watching movie trailers”
・”Aspiring to be a chef after seeing only the main dish of a course meal”
・”Aiming to be a professional baseball player after seeing Shohei Ohtani’s home runs”

In terms of job hunting…

・”Wanting to become a recruitment officer after seeing an employee presenting at a recruitment briefing”
・”Wanting to do product planning after being moved by a product in a commercial”
・”Wanting to work in marketing after seeing content that went viral on social media”

Of course, most people start their journey after “seeing the best scenes.”
However, when it comes to job hunting,
talking like the examples above can lead to being advised, “That job isn’t as glamorous as you think.”

To summarize.

There are two reasons for being told, “It’s not glamorous.”

“Looking only at the best part of a job and thinking you understand the whole” and
“Seeing only the results of a job without considering the process that led there.”

What Distinguishes People Who Are Told “You Seem Reliable” in Their Job Research?

The answer is clear.
To avoid being told, “It’s not glamorous,” meaning being seen as “understanding the gritty aspects and being reliable,” one clarifies two things in their job research.
The complete picture of the job and the process to achieve results.

For the consultant, this means researching the full scope of recruitment tasks and
the processes piled up to achieve the target number of hires, and
explaining, “That’s why I want to do it.”

This approach will prevent you from being seen as “only looking at the glamorous parts” or “likely to run from gritty work.”

When researching online or asking people, focus on
“the complete picture of the job” and “the process to achieve results”
to understand the reality of that job.

This also reduces the chance of a mismatch after joining.
It helps you to understand if you “truly want to do this job.”

“Job research” means knowing “the complete picture of the job” and “the process to achieve results.”

Nevertheless, couldn’t the job agent who advised the consultant “That job isn’t glamorous”
have explained a bit differently…
The consultant is already thinking, “I don’t necessarily want glamour, and
I believe every job has its gritty aspects,” so they were ready to accept an explanation.

Viewing people as “not valid unless they are the final version” is a grave mistake.

Just some complaints.

Job agents are like the preliminary interview for job hunting.
